Christie Nicole Brooks December 3, 1979 - July 8, 2020

On July 8th, 2020, Christie Nicole Brooks passed into the arms of her loving Savior at the age of 40. Christie loved her family fiercely and battled against illness for many years, inspiring everyone she met with her strength and tenacity.

Christie was born on December 3, 1979, and was adopted shortly thereafter by Larry and Peggy (Throgmorton) Teal. Christie loved animals from a young age, and owned a host of them—some time, some not so tame. If it had fur, Christie would feed it.

Christie attended Pensacola Christian College where she met her husband, Jim Brooks, in the Fall of 1998. They were married September 9th, 2000, and they ministered together at Riverview Bible Baptist Church in Forsyth, Missouri. Defying the doctors who said she would never have children, Christie and Jim were blessed with their miracle baby, Becca, in February 2004.

Christie lived life to the fullest, giving 110% to whatever she did. In high school and college, she played softball, volleyball, and soccer. She rode horses and motorcycles with equal zeal, and owned enough guns, knives, and swords to start a small museum. Christie worked as a vet tech, an EMT for the Pensacola Fire Department, and ran a photography business.

Christie was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Peggy Teal; her grandparents, Madge and Leroy Teal, and Jimmie and Ruby Throgmorton; and her aunt, Pam Throgmorton.

Christie is survived by her husband of 19 years, Jim Brooks; her daughter, Becca; her step-mom, Patricia Teal; her step-sister, Staci Cassidy; her aunt and uncle, Kenneth and Paula Gwin; and her cousins, Justin Gwin and family, and Kasey Claypool and family.

Though Christie loved excitement and adventure, her greatest love was furthering the Gospel of Jesus. Although in recent years pain and weakness prevented her from attending church, she still held our church family up by supporting her husband, praying for us, and texting encouragement whenever she was able. She never faltered in her faith, even when the pain became excruciating. She taught us that God shows Himself strongest through our weakness.

We praise God for Christie’s life, and for the years we had with her. Because of the death of Jesus on the cross and His resurrection, we know we will see her again.

Christie’s funeral will be held at Riverview Bible Baptist Church in Forsyth, Missouri, on July 13th, 2020, at 11:00am, with the viewing at 10:00am. Her husband, Pastor Jim, will be officiating the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kissee-Schofield-Eakins Funeral Home, Forsyth, MO.
