Earl was 79 when he passed October 19, 2019. He lived in Kimberling City, MO but passed at Cox Hospital in Branson, MO with his wife and cousin Marlene Sheldon by his side. He had gotten Leukemia and died of a MERSA infection to his lungs.
He was visited by 2 priests (Father Kelly and Father Joji), his loving helper Tonya Peduta and the loving cancer nurses that had treated him.
His father died while in service in 1945 and as an only child was not allowed to join the service which bothered him tremendously.
He was born January 28, 1940, in Denver, Colorado to Earl Henry Sketers and Marie Breckenridge Sketers. He attended Byers School, South High School and Colorado State University where he got a degree in Construction Management. He became a design-builder and built many unusual buildings. His two most famous were The Moshulu (a 4 masted grain ship) in Philadelphia which is still open to the public as a unique restaurant. In New Orleans, he built another interesting restaurant across from the pier on the Mississippi River. He owned his own company called Quantum, CM. He became a fishing guide on Table Rock Lake in Missouri in 2003 and was known for teaching kids how to fish. He also worked at Wedgewood Gardens, an assisted living facility. He played Santa and put on an outstanding fireworks display. He worked at a couple of bait and tackle shops also. He was married before he met Catherine Susan Dutton Patten and they were married in 1990. He planned and took her to 19 Indian Ruins for their honeymoon. They both liked the outdoors and had a fifth wheel and went to Montana, Yellowstone and many places around Colorado. They also traveled for his work.
His hobbies were all about fishing and gardening. He was a member of the Bass Association and the Stone County Chamber of Commerce. He loved helping with Cops for kids and the Winter Bass Series. He was Catholic and loved the priests from Branson and Kimberling City. Tonya Peduto came and gave him communion and took him to some of his many appointments when Susan was working.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Sketers, his beloved son Michael and his wife Jamie, and their children Dillon and Morgan Sketers and their 2 yr old Addison. Also, his sweet granddaughter Audrey and Erin Fazenden and their 2 boys Lane and Ryan. He is also survived by Susan’s daughters Heather Patten Doty, John and their 3 kids Trajan, Meghan and Brandt and Cathy Lichtenbelt, Barthold and their 2 sons Koen and Finn. He also has a daughter Michelle. He is survived by his dear cousins. He is also survived by his best friends Ron Kelly, Mike Edwards, Gary Jones, Danny and Julie Vasquez and Rich Gamble. He had many friends and was quite a jokester and helped his fellow fishing friends.
He was proceeded in death by his father Earl Henry Sketers, Marie B. Sketers, all his Aunts and Uncles and several cousins.
He and I want to thank all the people who helped us this past year like Ron Selvy, neighbors Don, Billy and Ron. Our Methodist Church Family and the people at Silver Dollar City.
